My Story
Trayton was born as the oldest child in Omaha, Nebraska on May 10th, 2002 to the wonderful parents of Tonya and Brian Kaminski. As a kid, Trayton was full of energy and always moving to his own beat. His parents had a hard time containing his energy, so being an active kid, Trayton’s parents put him into dance at the age of 3 at Kitty Lee Dance Studio.
Being a young child, Trayton enjoyed dancing; however, after a few years of doing creative and basic movement dance, Trayton wanted to venture out into new things. This led him to pursue an interest in soccer. For the next few years, Trayton stuck with soccer, his brother (Oliver) was born, and he began school in the Elkhorn School District.
After a few years of soccer, Trayton’s sister (Cosette) was born and she was put into dance. As she was put into dance, Kitty Lee Dance Studio offered his family a few free classes for him and his brother in a series of classes called “Stomping with the Boys”! This was a tap/hip-hop combo class where it was full of elementary school boys and a male teacher, fostering the art of dance in boys! Once being a part of this class, Trayton made really good friends who would eventually reawaken him with the greatness dance.
The defining moment reigniting his passion for dance was seeing the friends he made in “Stomping with the Boys” perform in the Competition team during the recital. He saw how much fun they had and Trayton realized this was something he wanted to do forever. This led him to join the competition team at Kitty Lee Dance Studio in Omaha, NE and shift his focus from soccer to dance!
Being a part of the competition team Trayton won many awards including multiple National Titles for a variety of styles of dance. He was a part of this specific team until his sophomore year of high school where he began to burn out. Being in high school, varsity show choir, the school musicals, and dance was a big commitment and he was feeling stagnant at his dance studio, signaling to him that something needed to change. This led him to join a new dance studio, Smitty’s Performing Arts Center in Omaha, NE, where he was able to take his dancing to the next level! Here, Trayton finished out his high school career learning the importance of musicality and artistry in dance while helping to shape him into the person he is today!
As Trayton graduated high school in the year 2020, he knew his next step was pursuing dance, and there is no better fit for him than Oklahoma City University. Currently, Trayton is pursing his degree of a B.S in American Dance Pedagogy learning to become a dance teacher and how to foster the love of dance in all people!
As Trayton finishes up his degree at Oklahoma City, he is excited to be taking the next steps in his career! Whether that takes him around the world on a ship, to New York on Broadway, or to a studio for choreography and teaching, Trayton can not wait to spread the joy of dancing with others. And who knows, maybe that next step will be near you!
